French photographer Alain Delorme shows us his own view of contemporary Shanghai with his brilliant work 'Totems'. Unlike most other photographers that are fascinated by the crowds, and the ubiquitous delusion of grandeur, Delorme draws his attention to the individuals. Particularly, to those small workers, migrants coming from all over China to the big cities. Although they are key driving forces of the seemingly incessantly growing society and their economic wealth, they usually get little attention. Delorme makes these individuals to superheros that handle their immense piles of objects with great dexterity. The piles become sculptures and symbols of a consumer society, with their height being as dizzying as those of the gigantic sky scarpers that emerge all over the place.
